Febuary will big a month. A lot of my larger projects will be finished around then. Last weekend was the photoshoot for some hats I knitted for the upcoming WWA Show.

Things have been moving quite fast. I have some projects that got lost along the way and some new ones.

I have been working two bigger projects that I am getting really excited about. One being my master thesis, the other being that this winter I will be in larger group show or is it smaller? It will be with some of my closest talented friends in the WWA Gallery. Here is a small peak at the miniature hats and mittens I have been knitting. I have stock piled with wool and am knitting my hearts content.

Winter Walter

Making new things.
I have lived in Southern California for most of my life. Cold weather is not something I am so familiar with. Last winter was a little rough for me, now living in a country where you actually have to wear winter coat. So in preparation for the cold I have made a companion.

Working Summer

I worked on some more animations for swisscom in the past couple months. Here is one of them.

There have been so many projects this summer. Here is a new piece I did for the WWA Gallery in Culver City for their "Curiosity Cabinet"

It is called "Pining". If you are interested in it for sale at WWA Gallery.

And lastly, I have been working on designing characters and costumes for Himmelfahrtskommando a film directed my good friend Dennis. I have been drawing, organizing, buying, sewing for the past months and we are finally shooting. I have been on and off set for the past couple week have it has been amazing. Here is one on the characters Fiona.

I am so happy with all the crew and support we have gotten for the movie. It is going to be really amazing.

This show is going to be amazing filled with really talented people and it is only up tonight! It was all organized by an art collective called the Upper 600s. Truly wonderful and dedicated people.
Here is my piece:

I put together this Luzern swan it is called "Weather or not". It has a barometer on his back so you can tell if it going to rain. I feel birds know these things a lot better than I do. I never seem to bring an umbrella on the right days. I knit him a little sweater neck to keep him warm and had a little too much fun with the decorative stitching (at least I am not using sequins anymore).

It is done. My first making of video. Maybe a little cliche to have one but it was a really fun Saturday. It shows me making my piece for the Crazy for Cult Show, drinking tea and hanging around in my flat... The show won't be up until July 10th but I was just too excited to wait that long to share it.

Getting started on projects is really hard after the initial lust and inspiration have run out. After a start and stop of almost 6 months now I can finally start drawing on my thesis. But now... nothing. I have decidedly organized myself and going through every art supply I have to see what will suit me best, as seen above...

Spring in Luzern means there are swans everywhere. Sitting around making a fuss. I can't get over how strange their necks are. I went on a walk along the lake and drew some.

I happen to catch one sitting on her nest. Baby swans are ridiculously cute.

As expected, after watching these creatures... I wanted one. So I made one for the up coming Upper Six Hundreds show on June 18th. It is going to be filled with amazing talented people.

Cows seemed to be roaming around in every green area bigger than my bathroom... So I sat in the shade and drew some genuine Swiss cows.

This was a busy week in Luzern. There was the Fumetto Comic Festival....YAY!
I was lucky enough to attend a workshop taught by Jerome Mulot , an amazing french comic artist. Here are some of the results:

This was my favorite comic I drew this week. It was draw your sunday in three frames...

And of course the week could not end with out buying comics... So I had to get this one... hand printed... amazing.

And it the end I met many amazing people. I have extra prints of my final comic from the workshop. So the first 5 people who post they want one I will send one too.

Colors

I took a pigment class on Tuesday, which was really fun. We made some oilpaint and watercolor. It was all a lot easier than you might think. Powder pigment and then something to make it stick. These are the watercolors we ended up with... Which was pigment and gum of Arabic and some glycerin. I got to take home a sample from everyone. I gave them all names... what could be better than naming colors?

Oh and I bought yellow carrots the other day at the store which I thought was really exciting. They were not unripe, they were just yellow.

Drinks and a Movie

A Shirt I designed for a Half Marathon in Santa Barbara, where you run through wine country, and from what it seems you get to drink wine afterwards. Registration is closed but there is more information on their site. Anyone interested in a shirt can contact me.

On a second note I am really excited to working with Dennis Ledergerber on his next movie! Check out the Movie blog where he is posting about the progress so far. It is mostly in German but the video are fun to watch and you get to see what is about. Not to mention Dennis is pretty much amazing with the camera and it is all going to be set in the beautiful landscape of Switzerland. So I posted previously about the animation I did of the rabbit. This is the final result (Elgee did the wolf) but, we programed a lighttracking system in MacMSP to detect where you are and so when you walking infront of the projection, the rabbit would hop away. By far the coolest and geekest thing/installation I have done.

I am having a fit of motivation and really getting things done. Here is the video of Sadie I finally edited. She can't really walk all that well in the wild, but I had fun looking like a crazy person in the woods. Playing with walking deer toy makes you seem a little nuts.

A photo project that I have been working on about provocation. I tried to provoke two emotions at the same time. Admiration and disgust, so I guess you could say it is pretty gross.... ah right. Thank you Miriam and Rachel for being such nice models as I covered you in stuff.

Sadie, The Deer with the Crimson Coat

I finally feel like there is something to show. But it is still in the works. I am trying not to show unfinished things anymore but, it has been a while on this one. Here is a little story of the birth of Sadie made from the skeleton of a cat and transformed into a deer.

It was as lovely day in the forest. I took some video of Sadie walking but those will come later.

I wrote a story about Sadie. Here is it complete with a storyboard.

The Deer with the Crimson Coat

There once was a deer with a crimson coat. She liked to wander far from home to see where the woods would take her. One day, she crossed a river too far and could no longer return. In a moment of panic she stumbled into a hunter’s trap. She lay there with a broken leg in the woods wishing to be free.

In this part of the woods there was a hunter, who on this day was feeling quite content with his new wool coat. One might say it was luck that the hunter found the deer, but others will say that it was a curse. Upon seeing the deer, the hunter was taken by her crumpled body and doleful eyes. He laid his rifle on the ground and set her free.

It was in this instant that the deer fell for the hunter and his kindness. Something she had never seen and would never forget. Months passed by and the deer knew nothing else of the unfamiliar land but that one moment of kindness. Hoping to find comfort from this moment the deer returned to the place she had found the hunter.

The Hunter was there waiting and by now his wool coat had grown thin and his family hungry. He looked at the deer and no longer saw the doleful eyes but her crimson coat that would keep his family through the winter. He now had to choose is was going to take the life that he had once saved. He raised his riffle and thought of his children, his wife and his empty stomach.

The deer looked into the eyes are the hunter and no longer saw the kindness from before. She was just a deer and he was just and hunter. Not knowing weather to run, the deer stood still as the hunter shot her in the chest. The hunter collected his prize and returned to his family.

The following Spring the hunter wore a crimson coat but no riffle. He had laid down the weapon that had killed the deer and had taken up fishing.

The End.

Oh to have homework again... My first assignment : story around a given picture, then compiled into one. Scanned. Done. I have the whole computer lab to myself it seems ( I am the only one with out a laptop, it is still the shop for the next week).

Final? Suggestions? The negative space between his legs keeps on bouncing back and forth... Funny that I got a picture so similar to my senior thesis too.

Jessica, Alicia, Aaron, Steve and I have been working on a theater production called NeverWonderland put together by BoomKat. We had an amazing shoot today. We took a break and did some self timers with the props (made by Jessica).

With the large amounts or work I have in the past week it seems the only way I can calm down is to sew sequins on to things. A strange habit I developed. Here is a hat I knitted and then be-sequined... don't worry there are many more but I am almost shamed to post them.

I forgot to mention... Thanks to Bob Dob I was asked to be in a show called Happiness. In the Artlink Phoenix Perihelion Gallery March 5th. I submitted my muffin piece.

I have a lot of different projects going on right now and sometimes it is a bit overwhelming to look at the list, but I would not have it any other way. I am really into sewing sequins onto things. I have no idea why.

Other than that I think I finished my Muffin piece. I was not really excited about how it turned out... but we move on I guess. But I made a list of all the wonderful valentine's food puns I have thought of and people have given to me. I want more though...
